Griffin School is excited to announce a special community event on Thursday, May 28, 2026, focused on environmental safety and responsible recycling.
One of our very own sixth graders, Scarlett, is hosting this event as part of her Girl Scout Silver Award project. Her mission? To keep our community safe by educating us on the importance of proper battery disposal.
Why Battery Safety Matters
Batteries are everywhere—in our toys, gadgets, and even our school equipment. However, when they are tossed in the regular trash, they can spark fires and release harmful toxins into the environment. Scarlett’s project, "Know Before Your Throw!", aims to provide a safe disposal box to prevent fires, protect sanitation workers, and reduce pollution.
Event Schedule: Thursday, May 28
We have a full day of learning and action planned:
During the School Day: Elementary students will attend a special assembly, and classes will have the opportunity to tour the Woodsy Owl education trailer.
Community Event (3:30 PM – 6:00 PM): Open to all! Bring your used batteries to the Griffin School parking lot to be recycled properly.
Location: Griffin School, 6530 33rd Avenue NW, Olympia, WA
Goal: We want to collect as many pounds of batteries as possible! Let’s show everyone what the Griffin community and the Girl Scouts can achieve together.
