3rd Grade

We are excited to share a wonderful story of community support for our students! Recently, the Olympia Host Lions Club reached a remarkable milestone in their mission to promote literacy: they have now donated nearly 12,000 physical dictionaries to local third graders through their long-standing "Dictionary Project."

In today’s digital world, the Lions Club remains dedicated to the value of physical books. For over 20 years, they have provided students with their very own copies of A Student’s Dictionary. Educators often view third grade as the critical transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn," making this the perfect time for students to receive a personal reference tool they can keep and use for years to come.

Many of our students are immediately captivated by these books, often using them to look up the longest words in the English language or exploring the various maps and facts tucked inside. For some, this dictionary is the very first book they have ever owned.

We are so grateful to the Olympia Lions for their "extraordinary milestone" and their commitment to enriching the education of our children.
