Hula Warrior

This book is a powerful way to dive into study of how hula is a form of oral storytelling passed down by Hawaiians. Through this true story the reader is also introduced to diversity of gender expression. Ho‘onani: Hula Warrior is based on a true story of a young child who dreams of leading the boys-only hula troupe at her school. Ho'onani feels that she is in-between. She doesn’t see herself as wahine (girl) or kāne (boy). But not everyone agrees that she should identify as, "in-between."
